How to support Calvin’s Remembrance

The C-will Fund

In memory of Calvin, the family established the C-will Fund with the goal of developing a robust booster program that will allow all Charlottesville City elementary and middle school students to have exposure and access to high quality, well supported school sports activities. It is their vision that with these funds, elementary and middle school athletics in Charlottesville City Schools will have the infrastructure, facilities, and enthusiasm to bring together our Charlottesville community for decades to come.

Why is this important? Calvin’s parents, Elizabeth & Jason, are deeply committed to Charlottesville City Public Schools and Charlottesville-area baseball. They believe that involvement in sports offers children opportunities for support, growth, and relationships that are separate from both home and school. Calvin played baseball at times for his school and at times for community teams. He is an example of the type of athlete that most youth sports programs serve – not a rising phenom but someone who loved the sport and grew by participating in it. As one of his coaches, Adam Frazier, said, “He worked so hard and had heart.”  Calvin himself saw that in our community, private sports programs receive the most resources. Though young, he recognized this as part of larger structural inequities. By supporting athletic programs at Charlottesville’s public elementary and middle schools, we hope to grow athletic skills, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and joy for all students.

LifeNet Health Organ Donation
The family wants to extend gratitude and appreciation to the First Responders team that supported Calvin; the compassionate care from the UVA Pediatric ICU team that allowed as much closure as was possible; and LifeNet that delicately handled the organ donation process.
